The side event "Strengthening Parliamentary Action in the International Climate Agenda: Toward a Decade of Implementation" jointly organized by Clima de Política, the Parliamentary Observatory on Climate Change and Just Transition (OPCC), the CIPÓ Platform, and Climate Parliament at the Regional Climate Foundations Pavilion proposes a dialogue among parliamentarians from Brazil, at both federal and subnational levels, and from the Global South, to reflect on the strategic role of the legislative branch in the international climate agenda and in consolidating models of inclusive, transparent, and effective governance. At a pivotal moment for multilateralism, the event will underscore the role of parliaments in translating global commitments, such as the Paris Agreement and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), into national legislation, budgets, and regulatory frameworks that facilitate climate action, sustainable investment, and green productive development.

Aligned with the COP30 Action Agenda and the spirit of Belém+10, the panel aims to outline a vision for the next decade of international climate governance, fostering a dialogue on how to strengthen democratic institutions, close implementation gaps, and advance climate solutions through multilateralism. The discussion will explore how parliaments can help enhance transparency and accountability mechanisms, creating political and regulatory conditions that drive green investments and ensure just and inclusive transitions.

The debates will particularly focus on the role of the Global South, which, although facing disproportionate vulnerabilities to climate impacts, has emerged as a source of solutions and innovations for a just transition. In this context, parliamentarians will also discuss how they can act as bridges between governments, the private sector, civil society, and citizens, thereby strengthening interparliamentary and regional cooperation and amplifying a common voice that can advance the next phase of the Paris Agreement’s implementation.
